The UK Cancer Vaccine Advance, led by Dr Lennard Lee, was selected as one of the top three investigator-led research projects in the UK. The recognition highlights the strength of translational research across the Nuffield Department of Medicine, the Medical Sciences Division and the wider Oxford clinical and scientific community.
The programme brings together immunology, clinical medicine, engineering and artificial intelligence to support the next generation of personalised cancer vaccines. Using the UK's sovereign AI Research Resource supercomputers, including ISAMBARD-AI and DAWN, researchers are developing advanced AI foundation models to help identify personalised vaccine targets and accelerate the translation of discoveries into NHS clinical trials.
This work reflects a growing national effort to harness emerging technologies for biomedical research and precision oncology. By combining scientific discovery with clinical insight, the programme aims to speed up the development and delivery of cancer vaccine trials, with the long-term goal of improving outcomes for people living with cancer.
Dr Lee, who is also a National Clinical Advisor to the UK Government and a member of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology’s National College of Experts, is helping shape how artificial intelligence can be applied responsibly and effectively in healthcare.
The recognition reinforces Oxford’s position as a leader in immunology, precision medicine and AI-enabled translational research.
