Director, Professor Tim Elliott, welcomed everyone to the event, thanking them for their important contribution to advancing global knowledge in immuno-oncology. Talks from Principal Investigators took a slightly different format from a standard research seminar - speakers were invited to reflect on the experiment that changed the course of their career, or the question they would most like their research to answer over the next five years.
DPhil students and research assistants took on the challenge of one-minute flash talks, giving concise introductions to their projects ahead of the poster sessions. These sessions provided an opportunity to continue conversations in more depth and to hear about work taking place across the Centre.
The programme also featured selected postdoc talks, chosen from submitted post-doc abstracts, showcasing research being led by early-career scientists across the CIO. Two PI fireside panels offered personal reflections and advice on career development, research independence, grant writing and finding their research niche, with plenty of questions from the audience.
The day ended with prize giving for best flash talks, posters and post-doc talk, followed by a quiz led by the Social Committee.
Bringing together the breadth of science and people from across CIO provided everyone with a chance to hear about exciting research projects, ask questions and spend time together beyond the usual workplace setting. We can’t wait for next year!
