Xinwen (Sophia) Hu
Research Assistant
Research interest:
My current role is to support the research needs of the lab wherever I am needed. Experimentally, I contribute to both mouse work and human tissue work.
In the mouse team, we use an in vivo mouse model of hepatocellular carcinoma, a common type of liver cancer, to study how macrophages help eliminate cancer cells through a process called ADCP. In the human team, we use patient samples to study T-cell-related immunity in hepatocellular carcinoma, aiming to better understand how the immune system interacts with liver cancer in patients.
In addition to experimental work, I also help with the day-to-day running of the lab, including purchasing, stock management, organising meetings, and making sure the lab operates in an orderly and efficient way.
Background:
I completed my BSc in Biological Sciences at Imperial College London, including a Year in Industry in the Early Oncology department at AstraZeneca. I then completed an MPhil in Immunology at the University of Cambridge, before joining the Centre for Immuno-Oncology as a Research Assistant. Through these experiences, I developed a strong interest in cancer immunology, particularly in understanding how the immune system can be harnessed to recognise and target cancer.
