Against Breast Cancer (ABC) have welcomed Dr Isabela Pedroza-Pacheco as their newest Junior Research Fellow at Oriel College, University of Oxford. Dr Pedroza is a Career Development Fellow at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, with an established record in vaccine and immunology research.

Launched in 2018, the ABC Oriel Fellowship scheme funds outstanding scientists and clinicians conducting breast cancer research at the University of Oxford. Competing against dozens of highly qualified applicants, Dr Pedroza was selected for the highly sought-after Fellowship.

Dr Pedroza earned a PhD in Immunology from University College London before completing postdoctoral training at the University of Oxford. In 2022, she received the prestigious Young Faculty Award from the Consortium for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Development in recognition of her contributions to the vaccine field.

Since 2023, Dr. Pedroza has served as the programme director of the Oxford Cancer Mexico Initiative, a collaboration between the University of Oxford, the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico, and the General Hospital of Mexico.

Dr. Pedroza presented her Fellowship plans at the ABC Research Conference, June 2026 (ABC news). Her project will investigate how the immune system recognises and eliminates cancer cells by applying advanced proteomic and gene expression technologies to analyse tissues and cells obtained from breast cancer patients from the UK and Mexico. The findings will support the design of novel therapies that enhance patient anti-cancer immune responses to improve breast cancer outcomes.
